On Sunday September 8th, I am so proud and honoured to be hosting another golf day for Macmillan Cancer Care.
I very much doubt that there is a single person who reads this blog who has not been touched by cancer. Whether its a family member, friend or loved one - or indeed you yourself, everyone has been touched by cancer.
All cancer charities are great and do great work. So why do I support Macmillan?
For me, it's very simple. Macmillan do not simply address one type of cancer. They do not limit their support to any specific group or age range. They do not only conduct research. They do not only support people with cancer. They take the broadest view and try to help everyone.
I think most people do not realise how much Macmillan do. The range of services they provide is enormous. Rather than me banging on about it here, why not take a look for yourself by clicking on the image below.
Many of my regular readers will know the challenges associated with fighting cancer. I've been brutally open and honest in these blogs about how depressed and tearful I have been throughout my own cancer journey.
There are many many times when I've thought that it would just be easier to die. I'm not being melodramatic here - I have lost count of the number of days when the fatigue and constant excruciating pain has driven me to the brink of wondering how easy it would be to book a trip to Switzerland where you are allowed to choose to die with dignity - something that we disgracefully continue to refuse to allow here in the UK (but that's a blog for another day)
But on those occasions, there is always Macmillan - calmy, compassionately and professionally talking me through the crisis and bringing me back from the brink. And I know I am not alone.
Like I said - the scope and range of what they do is incredible. I have no doubt that I would not still be here were it not for Macmillan. I would have given up the fight long ago. They supported over 2.3 million people last year. That is like supporting every single person in the city of Birmingham!!! Just stop and think about that for a minute!
Millions of us owe Macmillan so much. Please help me give back just a little bit of what I owe them. Every single penny we raise make a difference to ordinary people like me and you.
Thank you. I love you for helping make a difference.
I have created a dedicated website for the event [Website is now closed]. I would be grateful beyond words if you could circulate it amongst your own networks.
I also have a Just Giving page set up for the event for anyone who feels inspired to help Macmillan continue their great work. Click on the picture below.
